NSDA Academic All Americans

The Academic All American award recognizes high school students who have earned the degree of Superior Distinction; completed at least 5 semesters of high school; demonstrated outstanding character and leadership; and earned a GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale. Fewer than 2% of NSDA students earn the Academic All American award every year.

Grace Chawla

Grace qualified in the middle of her junior year. She is one the top interp participants from Northview and was one of the first to qualify for the TOC, NIETOC, and NSDA Nationals in those events. She helped grow the program by bringing in more people to participate in that division. Earning awards all over the country, Grace is the definition of a thespian. She served as a speech captain particularly working with interp participants. She is a member of the class of 2023.

Sanjh Mahatme

Sanjh qualified in the middle of her junior year. She was a top Public Forum debater both her freshman and sophomore year. She earned multiple bids to the tournament of champions and made a deep run into NSDA Nationals helping the school earn a Debate School of Honor award. She broke at many national tournaments and earned invitations to round robin tournaments. She also served in leadership during her junior year as the PF Captain. She is a member of the class of 2023

Juliette Salah

Juliette qualified during her Junior/Senior year. She finished her time at Northview in just 3 years, but she debated during her entire experience. She was a top debater at each level and earned four TOC bids during her 3rd year. She served as as a leader in the program helping develop middle school debate relations and training many of the novices leading to a strong Novice class her last year at Northview. She is a member of the class of 2022.

Sonal Churiwal

Sonal qualified for her Academic All American award during the Yale Debate Invitational. She began her career on the team during her freshman year where she competed in speech events. She began competing in Public Forum during her sophomore year and quickly began to excel. She championed 2nd Year Public Forum at the GFCA State Tournament and placed runner up in Varsity Public Forum the same year. After qualifying to Nationals, she made it to the 10th Round after not dropping a ballot during prelims. In her junior year, she and her partner earned the teams first Gold Public Forum TOC qualification to the TOC earning bids at Grapevine and Apple Valley. She is a member of the class of 2022.

Kristin Hsu

Kristin was the second team member to earn this award in the fall of 2019. She served as the Speech Captain (2019-2020) and helped develop Northview’s speech program in incredible ways. She holds the record, currently at 10, for most number of bids to the GFCA State Tourament in a single season by a member, earning them in five different events (EX, INF, OO, IM, and Congress). She has earned bids to the Tournament of Champions, NIETOC, and the National Speech and Debate Tournament in both Original Oratory and Informative Speaking. She is a member of the class of 2021.

Pranay Ippagunta

Pranay earned the award after his participation in the Barkley Forum. He has been a part of Northview’s most successful Policy Team in recorded history, earning five bids to the TOC as a Junior. He has served the team by recruiting and working with middle school students. In his junior year, he advanced into elimination rounds at nine national tournaments. He is a member of the class of 2022.

Yasmin Shalim

Yasmin earned her Academic All American award in her fall semester of her senior year. She worked exceptionally hard during her time at Northview to not only make it the Lincoln Douglas team that it became, but especially she focused on building up female team members. Her legacy is undeniably linked to the success of all future female Lincoln Douglas students. She became the first Georgia female debater to earn a bid to the Tournament of Champions in recorded history at the Apple Valley tournament. She is a member of the class of 2021.

Ian Yang

Ian earned his Academic All American award in the final semester of his senior year. He worked tirelessly throughout his career at Northview to help build the team into the powerhouse North Fulton Team that it is today serving as Policy Captain (2018-2019) to Team Captain (2019-2020). In his senior year, he reached 4 Tournament of Champion Bid Rounds. He also finished as a Double Octafinalist at the 2020 National Speech and Debate Tournament helping the team earn a Debate School of Honors Award. He is a member of the class of 2020.

Sreyaash Das

Sreyaash was the first student to earn the the Academic All American Award from the NSDA from Northview High School in the fall of 2019. He has served the Northview Team as a Lincoln Douglas Captain (2019-2020) and the Research Captain (2020-2021). He consistently performs as one of the top debaters at Northview, so far earning five career bids to the TOC. It is clear, Lincoln Douglas debate at Northview would not be where it is now without his influence. He has won two GFCA State Championships and reached Double Octafinals at the 2020 Tournament of Champions. During his senior year, he finished as a Semifinalist at the Yale, Glenbrooks, Longhorn Invitationals. He is member of the Class of 2021.

Khushi Afre

Khushi earned her Academic All American award after competing in the NSDA Nationals tournament in 2020. As a dedicated member of the Speech and Debate Team, she has served as Policy Captain (2019-2021). She also tirelessly works with middle schools to ensure future Northview Debaters. During her junior year, she reached 4 TOC bid rounds, and at the 2020 National Speech and Debate Tournament she finished as a Double Octafinalist, helping the team earn a Debate School of Honors Award. In her senior year, she earned four bids to the TOC. She is a member of the Class of 2021.
